ITS BACK!
It appears bird flu is making a slow but steady comeback. For the first time in over 6 months of show prep I discovered two stories on infected birds. One that came out of Israel mentioned that 18 Birds had died from the H5 category of the virus that kills only birds. However, scientists were still examining the birds to discover whether or not they had been infected by the H5N1 which poses the huge threat to mankind. This is the virus that was predicted to ignite a pandemic, yet I have not heard any reporting on this since the big foreign affairs article on the subject in 2006. Its resurgence, however, is not a surprise.If in fact if the Israelis conclude that the H5N1 strain was found, get ready for a month-long media blitz on the subject. Hell, you might even forget people are running for President. I am pretty sure at some point Dateline's Chris Hanson will start doing a running special known as "To Catch A Chicken Farmer." With the housing market issue dying as a panic issue, the media is in need of story to send this country back into a paralysed state of panic. What better then birds that can kill you. If I am correct in my prediction by next month the stock of KFC should have plummeted and whacked out shoppers will be holding chicken up to the light in their local grocery store.
The fact is the media should be using its valuable resources to actually report the success in Iraq. Here we are at a crossroads of a major conflict and the media is ignoring it. The fact is they know if public opinion goes up towards the war then Democrats lose, and the big bad liberal media can't have that.

Chris: Fact, I have a good, long time friend who is bird scientist with the federal government- no kidding. He recently was in China examining ducks for possible bird flu and their migration habits. While he was there, he had some concern of catching the bird flu but said it was impossible unless he ate an infected bird or he bathed or drank the same water the birds do. He witnessed, several times, the locals bathing in the same water (ponds)the birds do. Further he witnessed Chinese people WASHING their produce in the SAME bird bath water. I don't think the birds are ONLY swimming in the water. These are all habits we Americans do not do. Unless you or KFC decide to wash yourself or food in contaminated bird water, I don't think you have anything to worry about. By the way, while my friend was in China for 2 weeks testing and tagging ducks, they did not find one contaminated bird.
Wow, I had completely forgotten about the bird flu...In all honesty tho, I never really paid it any mind in the first place. Seemed like media hype to me.
