Spitzer Backs Down

Governor Eliot Spitzer of New York appears to be backing off his program to give illegal immigrant’s driver’s licenses. This comes out of the recent national focus on his plan; the focus was in response to Hillary Clinton’s apparent support of the program during a presidential debate. Her answer was puzzling to say the least. She found a way to support the plan, attack bush, and disagree with the plan all in one sentence. It appears that the gaffe was larger then we initially expected. After that debate drivers licenses for illegal immigrants has become a mainstream issue. Let us first take a look at the plan and its obvious and less then obvious flaws.

Governor Spitzer was looking to give drivers license to Illegal immigrants. Now that is bad enough on its own but it gets worse. There is a form in New York known as the Motor-Voter form; this document allows those with a driver’s license to register to vote. The clincher; there is no requirement to prove citizenship. This means essentially that if you have a driver’s license you can vote. This is essentially a giant example of voter fraud. Governor Spitzer’s plan would allow illegal immigrants to vote and presumably because he granted them the power they would support him. More importantly have any of you reading this been the DMV lately. Did it seem like they needed more things to deal with.

Now some of you are asking why dose Hillary care? Well because she’s trying to win both sides. She criticizes the president for lack of action while semi-supporting Spitzer. This way she can gain votes from those concerned with immigration policy as well as gain votes from a growing Hispanic community. In attempt to waffle as her husband did before her she is playing both sides. This time how ever she was caught. Her opponents in the debate pounced on her and ripped into her flawed and ultimately contradictory statement. Now she can probably ride this out and still win the nomination. But she has just handed the Republican Party general election advertising gold; and mark my words they will capitalize on this issue.
