The New Immigration Legislation Fails
Defeated 53 to 46, fourteen votes shy of the 60 needed to move onto the next stage. "The only victory here is for the American people,'' stated South Carolina Republican Jim DeMint following the vote. "People responded to this issue in a very emotional and engaged way, which changed the minds of many people here in the Senate.'' This vote today (and the vote last week) truly shows that the people of this country still have say when it comes to what is right and what is wrong.
Right: Upholding the laws we have accepted as a nation and punishing those who violate them.
Wrong: Granting law violators "amnesty" simply because some believe it is just impossible to catch and deport them all. With that mindset, why not abandon the war on drugs, war on terrorism...or crime in general.
With this vote, it is unlikely that we will return to this issue before the next administration hits office in 2009. What this means is that we need to be heard. Support law enforcement agencies who arrest, detain and/or deport illegals found in this country. Denounce all those who believe it is a "civil right" for law breakers to enter as they see fit. Think about the thousands upon thousands of legal immigrants in this country or waiting in line who must suffer because of illegal actions and liberal "amnesty."
This isn't racism (beat you to it), its Common Sense. Enforce the laws by punishing violators and rewarding those who obey. The next step is beginning the push for the secured border, including full support of the Border Patrol and the building of the wall (digital and physical). We need to bottle the ends, then take care of the issues who stick around on our soil. Lets get it done.
By the way, if we did build a wall of epic proportions along our southern border, don't you think it would make quite the tourist attraction? I'd go buy a t-shirt.

I'm sorry, but it is racist to single out a certain group of people and attempt to segregate them from this society. You point out the unlawfulness of these people and their presence without looking at the full scope of the issue: We need these people, this country flourishes with there contributions. I cannot see any other reason why you would not want them to be a part of "your" nation other than your obvious bigoted views. Must be lonely.
Kick them all out and put 'em at the end of the line! Let those who come here legally be rewarded for their good deeds!
I say send em all to Iraq and then make it a glass parking lot!
Jayson, Where do you live? You certainly do not live in the real world- grow up and open your eyes. Why do we need lawbreakers here? Is it because they do jobs you and others won't? Several months ago ICE raided and deported dozens of workers at a meat packing palnt out west. People like you said, why take them away- no one else will do the work, cry, cry, cry.
When the packing plant advertised the now vacant jobs, hundreds of americans and LEGAL visa holders showed up to interviews. You also neglect to realize that some of the unlawful people also commit crimes here, again. I suppose your opinion would be different if someone in your family was raped or killed by an illegal immigrant. Here in the DC area that has happened at least 5 times in the past 3 months. Wake up, grow up.
